Tanzer 26 - One Design racing on the Lake of Two-Mountains

By Pierre Marois.

Each year in late September, the Club de voile des Laurentides (CVL) hosts a one design regatta for the Tanzer 26 humbly called the “Mondial Tanzer 26” (also referred to as the “Tanzer 26 Intergalactic Championship”!!!).

It all started some 18 years ago as a small club event (for bar bragging rights among CVL T-26 owners) and it has grown into a regional championship for theTanzer 26. Boats from Lake of Two-Mountains and Lake St-Louis have participated in the past and the usual attendance is 8 to 12 boats, the majority of which race with spinnaker.

The regatta format is two days of racing with 7 races scheduled. The best 6 results are compiled for the championship standings.

Being held in autumn, the races are usually quite windy and are a true test for skippers and crews. Just take a look at the spectaculars photos from the 2004 Championship in the Yahoo photo gallery of the Tanzer 22 website and you’ll be convinced.

The 2006 Championship is scheduled for the September 23-24 weekend. The regatta is sponsored again this year by Mount Gay Rum.

All Tanzer 26 are invited to join in the fun!
