Canadians Win Hyères!

Canadians Oskar Johansson/Kevin Stittle won 1st overall in the Tornado class before the final medal race was even sailed! Not including the final medal race where only the top ten boats race, their lead was 23 points! What a remarkable and stunning accomplishment for this team from RCYC in Toronto.

Conditions were mostly light and shifty until the final two days of racing, when stronger winds and waves tested sailors adaptability to sail in differing environments.

Locas/Bone, Montreal sailors from BYC stayed in the Gold fleet of the 470 class, and finished with a very respectable 47th overall out of 112 entrants. They scored one 12th and two 14th placings. So, we know they can get to the top, and it is now a matter of getting it consistently.

Alain Bolduc of Ste. Agathe had some super races placing 9th, 11th, and then 3rd in his final race. I suspect Alain likes it when the wind blows with more authourity.

Dominique Vallee of the CNF club picked up a 6th in her best race and finished in the gold fleet of the RSX W fleet.

Canadians Michael Leigh and Bernard Luttmer each just missed the final medal race in the Laser class. There is no doubt they are Olympic medal contenders. Leigh scored a bullet and a 4th in individual races. Luttmer picked up a 3rd, and a 2nd in his final race. Lisa Ross scored a 3rd in one race and remained in the gold fleet of the Laser Radial class with an overall finish in the top third. There were many other Canadians competing too, as the Canada Sailing Team is now competing in full force in the lead up to the Olympic games. clicking the title will bring you to the regattas website with all the results.
